Terms and Conditions v1.2-20100519

This page details the terms and conditions of study on the Chichester College teacher training (TESOL (TEFL/TESL) courses in Thailand.

1. Application Procedure

1.1 All applications received will be judged on their own merits. Due to the fact that applicants can be from any nationality in the world, creation of a set of entry requirements is not practical.

1.2 All applications received will be responded to. This usually happens within 12-24 hours, but can sometimes take as long as a week.

1.3 A response to an application can take a number of different forms:

1.3.1 A letter of acceptance

1.3.2 A letter of refusal

1.3.3 Additional questions to clarify points on the application form to aid in one of the two responses above.

1.4 If an application is refused, the applicant has the right to appeal. The exact reasons for the refusal are not obliged to be disclosed, but there must be three opportunities for the applicant to appeal.

1.5 Acceptance of an application does not automatically guarantee study on a specific date. A place on a specific course date can only be secured by the payment of a deposit.

2. Securing a Place and Postponement / Cancellation

2.1 Once an applicant has been offered a place on a course, they will receive an email which will contain an official offer. This offer does not guarantee a place on a specific course date, but is a guarantee that the applicant is permitted to pay a security deposit in order to secure a place.

2.2 The amount required to secure a place on any course is US$300. Upon receipt of this payment, the applicant will be informed, by email, that their place has been secured. A hardcopy receipt is available upon request.

2.3 Once a place has been secured on a course, the applicant is guaranteed to be able to begin their study on the date confirmed in the email received, providing that they pay the balance of the course fees by the specified deadline. Although postponement of study is possible, a refund of the deposit or course fees is not possible as long as the institute is running the course on the promised dates.

2.4 The specified deadline for payment of the balance of TESOL(TEFL/TESL) courses are either two weeks before the start date of the course, if visa assistance is not required; or before visa documentation is released, if visa assistance is required.

2.5 In the event that a place on a course has been secured, but the applicant does not show up, there is no option for a refund. Additional conditions also apply, which are different for each programme.

2.6 Postponing to a subsequent course is not possible unless 2 weeks notice (in advance of the start date of the course) is given.

2.7 Should the course be canceled by the institute for any reason, the applicant will be notified and given the opportunity to choose to either postpone to another course or receive a full refund.

3. During the Course

3.1 Course participants must arrive on time and in a fit state to study at all times.

3.2 Non-attendance for any particular session, or late arrival, will result in a verbal warning. Three verbal warnings will result in exclusion from the course upon the next offence. Certain exceptions are possible:

3.2.1 Medical proof of absence.

3.2.2 Exceptional circumstances.

3.3 Course participants arriving at the centre intoxicated or under the influence of drugs will be automatically excluded from the course. Other grounds for automatic exclusion include inappropriate behaviour, threats and unwanted advancement and/or harassment towards fellow classmates, tutors or administration staff. Serious cases will also be referred to the local authorities.

3.4 Participants excluded from a course under clause 3.2 will have the chance to enroll on a future identical course, by re-paying 40% of the course fees. Participants excluded under clause 3.3 will not have an opportunity to re-enroll.

4. After the Course

4.1 Successful completion of any course will result in the award of the certificate or diploma appropriate, as described in the course outline. Failure to complete all of the components of the course will mean that a certificate cannot be issued. Unless the principal tutor deems it futile, course participants failing to complete a course will have the chance to redeem themselves by:

4.1.1 Completing the elements of the course that they did not complete, if it is possible for these elements to be completed on an individual basis, and be re-evaluated with the next group of course participants, when the certificate or diploma will be available. A fee of US$150 will be payable.

4.1.2 In the case that it is not possible to complete the required elements on an individual basis, enroll on a future identical course, by re-paying 40% of the course fees.

4.2 Certificates and diplomas for those passing the course will be available for collection at the Training Centre in Bangkok two weeks after the final session of the course. Certificates and diplomas not collected by the course participant at this time will be held for a period of 12 months and then destroyed. Replacement certificates, in all cases, cost US$100 and can take 6-8 weeks to arrive. Certificates cannot be mailed except via DHL courier, which costs US$50 to anywhere in the world. Certificates lost in the DHL courier system will be replaced free of charge, but a 6-8 week delay is still applicable.
